The New Look of Ghost Rider

The trailer for Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance has been released online. Having watched it, let's see what are the differences in appearance between Ghost Rider in these two movies.

Skull and Flames

The skull in the original movie looked more like a real skull, but you can see that in the new movie they've elongated it and also given it bigger eye sockets. In a way it certainly looks more demonic, and also more comic-book like. The colour of the skull is now a lot darker, looking like it was burnt by hellfire. As for the flames on the skull, they don't look so "clean" anymore, and there's also smoke now in addition to the flames.

Clothes

In the new movie, Ghost Rider sports blackened and charred clothing, unlike the original. In the trailer, you can even see the leather boiling! It's a really neat effect!


Body

In the first movie when Johnny Blaze transforms into Ghost Rider, Nicholas Cage wasn't the person playing the Ghost Rider. So what we got was a broad shouldered Ghost Rider, that didn't really fit the body shape of Cage. Well in this reboot Cage will be playing Ghost Rider too, and it definitely looks better. Check out the picture above of a leaner Ghost Rider.

Also note that in second movie, Ghost Rider doesn't wear some silly T-shirt underneath his biker jacket, so you can see the flames go all the way down his neck. This is another thing that I think looks so much better and really captures the look of the comic books. 

Is Ghost Rider the only superhero movie series that has the same actor in both the original and the reboot? It would seem so. (For the Hulk movies, they replaced Eric Bana with Edward Norton) Anyway, the look of Ghost Rider in Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance seems promising. I can't say that the story interests me though, but I'll definitely go catch it when it comes out next year, just to see Ghost Rider in action again.
